Welcome to ÐÔÊÓ½ç #64

January 2024

The happiest new year to all of you! May you achieve and experience everything you wish for in 2024. "But where do I begin?", you ask. Well, we do have some suggestions.

Many of you arrive at the main station. The next time you pass by, why don´t you plan a little tour around the station? At square Washingtonplatz the futuristic office building has attracted many visitors for four years now. Not only the architecture is futuristic here: this house (assuming that we may still call it a house) is one of the first so-called – meaning that human beings and artificial intelligence work together here. Sounds scary, right, but it´s actually quite sustainable: Cube ÐÔÊÓ½ç automatically regulates the room temperature in dependence of the people inside the building, it switches off the lights, if somebody has forgotten it and – well, that might rather be sustainable for our laziness – organises our meals and looks for the closest parking lot. And we could go on like this for a long time. Not too bad, eh?

Most of the German kids are still enjoying their Christmas vacations. Well, we didn´t forget you! Have you ever been to Jurassic World? No? Well, then off we go to the Rathenau-Hallen in the district of Oberschöneweide! is a unique experience for all the fans of the Jurassic movies among you, kids and grown-ups alike. And most of the visitors come back alive, they told us. (© Photo: Universal Studios and Amblin Entertainment, Inc. All Rights Reserved)

If you´d rather listen to some good music than to growling monsters at the beginning of the year, the at could be just your thing. The renowned Horenstein-Ensemble will perform a versatile programme of classical chamber music, from Ravel to Honegger. That will surely ease our firework-troubled ears.

But of course we will once again not only have a closer look at the performing arts scene in ÐÔÊÓ½ç, but also at the visual arts. So let´s visit POP KUDAMM. There´s always something new to discover in this multifunctional garage at boulevard Kurfürstendamm: a vernissage, the affordable art fair, party night or public discussion. Unfortunately the website doesn´t seem to work these days, that´s why it´s best to just pass by Kurfürstendamm 229 and let the artists surprise you with today´s programme!

Just a short walk and we get to the beautiful and vivid square Savignyplatz, where a solitary work of art has shortly been installed underneath the train bridge: the impressing sculpture Bonfire by , a famous German company for light-design. This installation is especially spectacular when it´s dark – well, we have enough darkness these days. At least once this is actually an advantage.

Now it´s time for an exception we only rarely make. We´re going to have our aperitif somewhere else. We´re not that far away from (e. g. two stations with the U2 from Zoologischer Garten to Nollendorfplatz), where we get fabulous drinks in cosy old England atmosphere. If the air gets too stuffy (you´re allowed to smoke inside here): . For second aperitif, , digestif or late-night snack.
