November 2023

This year´s autumn has made us wait for quite some time. But now, time´s over for summer. Never mind! We will find some nice things to occupy our minds with in this marvellous city, anyway.

At the beginning of November Halloween is definitely over. Well, is it? Of course 31 October and 01 November have passed already. But today it´s All Soul´s Day! And nobody is better at than the people in and from Mexico. That´s a bit too far for the weekend, you say? Right, but this year helps out. Until Sunday there are , sometimes even until midnight, with a large traditional ofrenda, a market, workshops and live music. The entrance is free and also includes the special . So, let´s go ! Anybody hungry when looking at the picture of the ofrenda? Let´s visit (eng.: house of world cultures) then. The programme series offers opportunities to cook or try various dishes from all over the world and invites us to exchange ideas about gastronomical traditions and trends. If you can´t make one of the dates, don´t worry. , restaurant and beer garden of Haus der Kulturen der Welt, is open daily and offers a spectacular view of the river Spree and government district. As we are just around the corner anyway, let´s go see Brandenburg Gate again. But this time our focus lies on the backyard of the building Pariser Platz 6a, right next to Brandenburg Gate. This is where well-known sculptor Stephan Balkenhol has enriched the city with two impressive figures in 1999 – people from Hamburg will know his work from in front of the central library or the two men standing on a buoy in river Elbe and Alster. Do you think the smaller man is hiding behind the taller one? Or is the taller one literally larger than life? Interpretation suggestions can simply be sent as an answer to this newsletter. We are looking forward to your ideas!

A weekend that´s all about minerals, fossils and jewellery is just a stone-throw away. From 24 to 26 November is turned into a giant treasure chest with . This trade show is an absolute must-do for the whole family. And one thing is pretty clear: after three hours of strolling around on their treasure hunt and admiring all the fascinating objects, you won´t have any troubles putting the kids to bed.

Speaking of sleep - ah, no, don’t worry. We will not recommend a boring, old-fashioned opera production now, so you can fall asleep more easily. "" was composed by Peter Eötvös for , based on the novel of this year´s winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Jon Fosse. Tomorrow the show of 2021 will return to the stage and make one thing pretty clear: we will stay sleepless throughout the show.

Slowly, but steadily we are starting our . A small detour to Oberbaum bridge is definitely worth it. From here the look just like the stars they signed.

A last tip for the weekend: marks the end of this year´s ÐÔÊÓ½çer Festspiele. The last note will be played on Sunday. Well, we don´t want to boast, but at Orania.ÐÔÊÓ½ç its´s jazz festival five days a week… .
