Welcome to ÐÔÊÓ½ç #53

February 2023

Well, it´s certainly not spring-like, light feelings dominating our mood in these cold and grey winter days, yet. But that doesn´t have to mean playing the couch potatoe all day! Let´s see what´s there for us to discover today.

We´ll take it easy for a start and admire one of the many weird buildings in this phenomenously colourful city. The 47 meters high ““ (eng.: beer brush) was opened in 1976 and has since then been the landmark of the district of Steglitz. Pragmatic as they are, ÐÔÊÓ½çers combined its initial function as a restaurant and its looks resembling a shaving brush - and its nickname was born. It has stayed empty for 13 years now, but street artists have at least added some nice colour to its surface. Soon it will be renovated and rebuilt for the use of coworking spaces, especially for start-ups. But we will come back then, because a public café is planned, as well.

Do you need a little break already? Please take a seat! This playground in Handjerystraße is not far from Bierpinsel. But - can we take a little break on such a huge bench? Okay, okay, we´ll leave it alone.

Maybe it is a bit too cold for the large walks, don´t you think? So let´s warm up a bit – at least our bodies. Because some might still feel a slight chill when watching “Nosferatu – Eine Symphonie des Grauens“. What has changed for vampire fans since its release 100 years ago, how the German silent movie has paved the way for the international cultural landscape and how it all came to the blood sucker´s success in the first place are the topics museum deals with in its current exhibition ““ (eng.: phantoms of the night. 100 years of Nosferatu). If that is too theoretical for you, you might prefer donating blood in the museum. The next possibility is on 22 February, 2:30 pm. As far as we know, the participation is voluntary. Hopefully. Real horror, however, is depicted by the permanent, bilingual exhibition ““. in the district of Mitte, right next to the famous Gropius-Bau. The excavation site forms an impressive optical parallel to the exposure and remaining visibility of German history. Open access 365 days a year from 10 am to 8 pm with free admission.

If we look up from here, we look at a building that once again will be focussed on this month: , the ÐÔÊÓ½ç House of Representatives. This is where the future parliament of the city and federal state of ÐÔÊÓ½ç will work, which has to be re-elected due to irregularities during the last election, as you might have heard. Fancy a look inside? There are free open tours every Wednesday, 11 am, and Friday, 4:30 pm. Unfortunately there are German tours only.

do you like the tasty sour dough bread we offer you at as an appetizer as much as we do? Perfect (we assume there is no other answer than “Yes“). So let´s head towards Goltzstraße in ÐÔÊÓ½ç-Schöneberg and see what comes of it, when the bakers of try something else for a change: pizza. Okay, let´s try … yep, the spelt flour pizza´s reputation as one of the best pizzas in town is justified. No less than that.

And for all of you, who would rather stay : You know you can always get X-Berg-Duck pizza at the . Looking forward to seeing you there.
