How beautiful. Flowers are still blossoming, trees are still green… these late summer or early autumn days we often feel like doing things for the last time of the year. Our walk today could also be a last time as we are going to look for the most amazing fountains of the city – right before they go into their well-deserved hibernation after this long and sunny summer.
Square Barbarossaplatz in the district of Schöneberg was decorated by the Kinderbrunnen fountain (eng.: children´s fountain) in 1913. We just wonder whether sculptor Constantin Starck had a glass too much designing his work of art – each of the two boys and two girls is playing on the edge of the fountain twice…
“It´s just a [mental] jump to the left“ from kids to fairytales. We admit it: we have recommended (eng.: fairytale fountain) at Volkspark Friedrichshain earlier. But it really is one of the most extraordinary water places of the city. By the way: it was finished in 1913, just as Kinderbrunnen in Schöneberg. The horoscope for 1913 must have predicted the year to be a good one for building fountains.
Most of the tourists visiting Pariser Platz will not pay the beautiful fountain the attention it deserves, just as well as the flower beds surrounding it. Well, Brandenburg Gate next to it is just too dominant for fellow attractions.
Speaking of Brandenburg Gate: you have learned now, that Potsdam also has one. If we return there, we discover that it also has a . Not bad, dear Brandenburg people!
It´s completely different from Pariser Platz with Viktoria-Luise-Platz. This marvelous square was created when Schöneberg was still an independent community and not yet part of Greater-ÐÔÊÓ½ç. Aligned to the centre, all the picnicing families´ and sunbathing young people´s eyes are on the fountain in spring, summer and autumn. Definitely one of the most popular fountains of ÐÔÊÓ½ç.
As the Munich Oktoberfest has started last weekend, here come two very special recommendations regarding fountains for all of those, who want to get to know ÐÔÊÓ½ç´s quaint and rustic soul: (eng.: beer fountain of Spandau) and the cozy old restaurant in the district of Wedding. And the does surely not cost 13,80 € as it does in some of Oktoberfest´s party tents.
Before returning to , there´s a special announcement on our own behalf we still have to make today. From 06 October “WELCOME BACK TO BERLIN“ will reach you every first Thursday of the month. Great programme tips for upcoming events of the month and the personal recommendations you are used to will keep drawing you to the vibrant city of ÐÔÊÓ½ç. Should you really run out of ideas about what to do in the German capital in the meantime: . You know .
