We admit it – we cannot keep an objective eye on ÐÔÊÓ½ç. We would never even pretend to. But honestly – who can resist ÐÔÊÓ½ç in summertime? What? You say, you´re still not a hundred percent convinced of this city, after all the tours we did together? Well, then let´s see what kind of open air events the capital has to offer at these marvelous early summer temperatures!
Today we make an exception and start with a snack – prophylactically. There´s a lot to discover! Every Friday co-working space B-Part at Gleisdreieck hosts – foodtrucks wherever you look. On Sundays the event moves next door and the vibrant park at Gleisdreieck is taken over by local designers and musicians - is just the thing for us.
Talking about music: we can get our serving of really good Jazz at . You like , so you should really take a train to Hasselwerder Park in Treptow and go find the open air stage. Real groovy…
Before putting the kids to bed, let´s quickly check their summer programme: (“German-French folk festival“) is taking place again! The central fairground at Kurt-Schumacher-Damm will once again be revived – Wednesday to Sunday until 31 July.
Summer always rings one unpopular bell for theatre lovers in Germany: summer break. But don´t worry, has your solution (even in English)! This cultural schedule for all of ÐÔÊÓ½ç knows that summer brings with it some wonderful theatre treasures. For example has just opened its brandnew theatre – inspired by the historic Globe Theatre the audience isn´t even victim to changes in the weather. Even though they use the German translation, „“ (Much ado about nothing) is really worth watching. (© Photo: Thorsten Jordan)
Celebrating the performing arts has always been ´s motto, as well – for 30 years now. That is why at the weekend we head towards Potsdamer Straße for their free Hoffest (eng.: backyard party) and celebrate the theatre´s birthday with lots of artists and circus performers, framed by a children´s programme and a backstage tour. This party seems to earn its name, doesn´t it? (© photo: Wintergarten Varieté)
We know we have recommended this earlier – but when else do you have the opportunity of visiting (until 29 June)? For all of you, who don´t get a ticket anymore (we have never managed to get one, so far – but ÐÔÊÓ½çale, you haven´t seen the last of us!), there is enough choice when it comes to regular in all of the capital (and many films are subtitled or even shown in English).
ÐÔÊÓ½çale, Biennale – ÐÔÊÓ½ç has it all! Spare yourself the summerly Venice, flooded by thousands of tourists! depicts current sociopolitical topics through the work of international artists at various in the city. (© photo: Laura Fiorio)
Next Friday (ÐÔÊÓ½ç´s cemetary night) is our must-do. Sounds dead boring? Nope, not at all. The cemetaries in our neighbourhood are listed as Historic Monuments and will be revived that night by music, theatre shows and readings as well as food and drinks. Whoever finds writer E. T. A. Hoffmann´s grave first, wins!
As we are already in the area, we head back now. Once more reminded of the beauty and diversity of this wonderful city we may live in. When will you visit us, again?
