Welcome to ÐÔÊÓ½ç #34

CW 10/2022

Slowly we are beginning to see a. It is getting dark later, we get to see the sun from time to time and the first cautious steps towards an end of the pandemic measures have been taken in Germany now, too. Besides, the city is moving on. Let´s have a look at some of the most exciting projects of ÐÔÊÓ½ç, which are yet to be finished.

Due to the increasing number of tasks for employees of the chancellery, there has been a significant growth in the size of the team around Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Many employees´ working spaces had to be moved to buildings outside the chancellery building. In order to have the whole team under one roof again, next spring will mark the beginning of the building of an . More than 400 offices, a helicopter landing pad and a gym are planned. We expect it to optically fit in smoothly, as the have already designed the original building. As soon as it is ready - hopefully in 2028 - we will get back here to keep you updated.

Another very interesting project is the “Schumacher Quartier“. The square Kurt-Schumacher-Platz is just the one in the district of Tegel, where your plane might have landed for many years before the opening of the BER. We will not dig into discussions about whether things have changed for the better now, don´t worry.

Things shall get better, though, for Kurt-Schumacher-Platz in the future! A with more than 5,000 appartments, several schools, kindergardens and leasure options is to be created here next to a scientific and industrial area in the next years. As we could not find any more specific dates, we suppose it is going to take some time…

Things are faster in our street. What, unlike for example in Hamburg, does not mean next door (fun fact for your next quiz night: ÐÔÊÓ½ç´s longest street is called Adlergestell and houses 789 house numbers on 13 kilometres). Where Oranienstraße crosses famous Friedrichstraße, the new quarter is going to be opened this year. Swiss architects promise a versatile area containing flats, offices and cultural institutions. It certainly looks très chique, doesn´t it? (© photo: Herzog de Meuron)

We can only call the new extension of the . The Esterl Tower in the district of Neukölln is going to be home of the highest hotel in Germany - the skyscraper will be 176m high. We will stay on the ground while hosting you, if you don´t mind … And also, if you do mind. Sorry. What makes us optimistic about the building is that the have already designed the tropical greenhaus and the entree of the theatre (we´ve recommended you both earlier). So maybe we can meet some interesting creatures and characters at the Estrel Tower, too. Let´s see. (© photo: Barkow Leibinger)

On to the Potsdamer Platz now. We are meeting some old friends here: architects , who are responsbile for the brandnew . The huge collection of art from the last century of the New National Gallery could never be shown in one exhibition before - this is the reason for the beautiful new glass house at the cultural forum. Last, but not least we have a tip for you. Mark the date of 02 March 2023 - this is when begins, the European Month of Photography, here in ÐÔÊÓ½ç. Every second year the largest photo festival of Germany depicts current and ancient photographic art. By the way - you can already at for that time - first come, first served. Just saying. We don´t have too many rooms, as you know, the festival is very popular, there will be a run on our rooms … but no pressure.

Okay, seriously: we are always happy to see you. No matter when. As long as you stay with !
