Welcome to ÐÔÊÓ½ç #66

March 2024

Things are looking up with the year again!

The first heralds of spring have gently said hello already. But until it´s time for all the wonderful outdoor activities once more, we have loads of nice things to keep us busy with in the meantime.

This month´s Orania.Highlight: On Wednesday, 20 March, renowned chef of Micha Schäfer will bring his knifes and spoons to our . There will be four courses of fine French cuisine in our usual relaxed-cosmopolitan Orania.Atmosphere. There are currently still a – see you there?

There is no way to get bored until then, that´s for sure. On this year´s International Women´s Day – so tomorrow, Friday, 08 March, which by the way is a bank holiday in ÐÔÊÓ½ç – we decided to reach for the stars. Or to be more precise: we want to celebrate the women, who at the end of the 19th century contributed to reaching out for a better understanding of stars. "" is a short show about some far too little known female scientists at in the district of Prenzlauer Berg. Unfortunately, the show is in German only. So if you would like to dive into the topic some other way, maybe "", the film about leading female mathematicians at the NASA in the 1960s, is your way to spend the evening. Speaking of great movies: after the ÐÔÊÓ½çale is before the Oscars! How about watching the ceremony at a cinema instead of on the couch this year? puts all of this . Some of this year´s nominated films will be shown during the day – always in the original version, usually with German subtitles. Besides you can once more enjoy "" on the big screen – one of the movies, that didn´t get to take home the golden man for best movie, but should have, in the eyes of the cinema owners. Afterwards there will be a free screening of the ceremony in L. A. all night long.
By the way: please don´t try to resist the temptation of this beautiful, independent cinema´s homemade (!) popcorn. It is not only organic, but the best in all of ÐÔÊÓ½ç. But just go and get your own delicious impressions. We are far too biased to think clearly anymore.

Just popcorn won´t take you through the day, you say? So, off we go to Rosenhöfe next door! Restaurant makes fabulous Neapolitan pizza. And cutting it with the golden scissors is huge fun, not only for the kids. Please do in advance.

Booking your table in advance is also highly recommended at – which means several weeks or rather months in advance. The "Home of Jazz & Blues" puts on concerts and jam sessions every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. It´s always crowded as the subway at rush hour – and that doesn't come as a surprise: you usually only feel transported to Birdland this quickly while enjoying our .

"Does hell know that it´s a metaphor?"

If you´ve been asking yourself this question, too, it´s time to visit Kammer at , once again. "" (Eng.: the winged frog-god), actually a monologue by Ingrid Lausund, is intelligent philosophical discussion, moving struggle with life and death and incredibly funny fantasising about death and what might come afterwards. The show carries English surtitles and will be presented on 22 and 26 March, but also stays in DT´s repertoire for a while now. (© photo: Thomas Aurin)

Another artist, who knows how to deal with metaphors is famous German painter and sculptor Gerhard Richter. Interpretations are best discussed enjoying his permanent exhibition "" at . (© photo: Gerhard Richter, photo: David Pinzer)

Wow, that was quite a lot of culture, once again! That leaves us with a hole in our stomachs. But we know to fill it. Would you like to join us?
